Most Under-rated Rock Bands
Here is my list, in no particular order (and subject to addition as I consider the subject).
1. The Kinks
2. Cheap Trick
3. The Throwing Muses
4. Screaming Trees
5. SuperChunk
6. Sleater-Kinney
7. The Mekons
To be fair, some of the above aren't under-rated, they aren't rated period. I don't think most people have heard The Mekons for example. I remember hearing Screaming Trees on the radio back in the grunge era. I don't know why they weren't as big or bigger than SoundGarden or Nirvana, both of which I really like. Oh well.
I may do an over-rated list. If so, I think Bruce Springsteen will be numero uno.

With the exception of the Mekons (as you said) I've heard of all of them. However, I can only recall actually hearing songs by Cheap Trick and the Kinks. I might have heard songs from the other bands, but I can't recall them at the moment.
Back in tha day, the Kinks and Cheap Trick were both pretty big.
He he he, remember the Mentors? There is a female version (I guess) called Rockbitch. You can find some of their concerts on p2p. LOL.
The radio stations around here prettyy much suck, so I don't listen to them, so I don't hear new music that often.
I would have to add The Pixies to your list. My favorite dark horse from your list is Throwing Muses. You and I have discussed The Mekons before. In fact, I think I loaned you their CD titled 'Rock and Roll'.

thanks for the input. Good call on the Pixies too. Hadn't thought of them. Have you heard Throwing Muses? They were my favorite once. I still appreciate the Mekons loaning as well. I got the CD myself now.
