No Regrets?

Tom Freidman, an early supporter of the Iraq war, was on the NPR show Onpoint today. Somebody called in and said that Bush and his gang at least had an excuse, that they hadn't been to the Middle East, but that Friedman should have known better and that now things were going South Friedman was jumping off the ship like a rat. The question was - did Friedman feel like he had anything to apologize for or regret?

Friedman's answer was something along the lines of, What should I apologize for? For believing that democracy could work in the Arab world? That I should have been a good liberal and just assume that Bush was a bad guy and that this mess had to happen?
Something like that.

All his arguments were straw men. He never addressed the issue of whether it's really a good idea to liberate people by bombing them and occupying them or if it was worth it in the case of Iraq for other reasons.

I don't know if he's lying to himself or doesn't really think he should harbor doubts and regrets. Anyway, I'm sure some other country will come up for us to bomb/liberate. The NY Times, Kristof in particular, is looking for us to save Darfur. By blowing some shit up presumably since no other specific action has been recommended.

Hopefully it will work out better than that Somalia thing.

I have my doubts.
